Know what you're
walking into.
CNRY collects honest, first-hand accounts from people who've actually worked under a manager — so the next person doesn't have to find out the hard way.
Companies get reviewed. Restaurants get reviewed. Managers, somehow, don't.
Performance reviews flow one direction: down. CNRY flips it. Every entry is written by someone who actually reported to that manager — pros, cons, and whether they'd do it again. No manager logins, no way to pay for a better score, no editing your own file.
Verified Testimonies
Reviews written by real former and current reports — not the manager, not HR, not a PR team.
Structured Ratings
Every review scores the same categories — fairness, training, culture, work-life balance — so managers compare apples to apples.
Searchable Records
Look up a manager or company by name before your interview, your offer, or your exit interview.
"Wish this had existed before I took the job. Would've asked very different questions in the interview."
"Writing the review was more validating than I expected. Took five minutes, felt like closure."
"Found my current manager on here before I accepted the offer. Every word of the review checked out."

Our Mission
Here at CNRY, we strive for one thing and one thing only: transparency for our future. To provide a platform that levels the playing field and helps people make the best decisions — not only for their careers, but for their lives.
How It Started
CNRY was born of a collective experience of former employees who wished they'd known beforehand who they were going to work for. If only we knew then what we know now — CNRY acts as a warning to potential employees about what they're getting themselves into. Long gone are the days of employers holding all the upper hand.
Why We Exist
Job listings tell you the salary. Glassdoor tells you about the company. Almost nowhere tells you about the one person who will shape your day-to-day experience more than anyone else: your direct manager.
CNRY was built to close that gap — a place where the people who actually reported to someone can say, plainly, what it was like.

Why a bird?
For more than a century, the first worker to enter a coal mine wasn't a person — it was a canary. Long before electronic sensors, a small yellow songbird was a miner's earliest and most reliable warning that the air ahead could kill. CNRY is named for that bird, and built on the same idea: an early warning, so the people who come next don't have to find out the hard way.
A sentinel with feathers
The practice was championed around the turn of the 20th century by the Scottish physiologist John Scott Haldane — sometimes called "the father of the canary in the coal mine." Haldane studied how invisible gases, especially carbon monoxide, poisoned miners without warning, and proposed a simple safeguard: send in a creature that would feel it first.
Carbon monoxide has no colour and no smell. By the time a person felt dizzy it was often already too late. Miners needed something that would fail before they did.
Why the canary, of all animals?
Birds are exquisitely sensitive to airborne toxins. Their respiratory system pushes air through the lungs in a near-constant, one-directional flow and draws on a network of air sacs, so they take in oxygen — and any poison mixed with it — far more efficiently than mammals. Paired with a fast metabolism, that means a level of carbon monoxide a miner might tolerate for a while would overwhelm a canary quickly.
The warning was unmistakable and visible: a singing canary would fall quiet, sway on its perch, and topple. That sudden silence told every miner in the tunnel one thing — get out, now.
Into the dark, together
Miners carried the caged birds down with them each shift, deep into passages where the light ran out and the air could not be trusted. For generations of miners — many of them barely more than children — the bird in the cage was both a companion in the dark and a line of defence that never needed reading or calibrating.
The canary asked for almost nothing and gave back the one thing that mattered most underground: a few extra minutes of warning.
Care for the canary
Over time the birds were treated with real tenderness rather than as something disposable. Special "resuscitator" cages were built with a small oxygen cylinder and a sealable glass door: at the first sign the bird was in trouble, the miner would close the door and open the valve, flooding the cage with oxygen to revive it.
The goal had quietly shifted — no longer to sacrifice the canary, but to heed its warning and save it. The bird got to fly another day, and so did the miners who trusted it.
The end of an era
Canaries kept watch in mines for the better part of a century. In Britain they weren't officially retired until 1986, when electronic carbon-monoxide detectors finally replaced them. Miners reportedly missed the birds — there is something irreplaceable about a warning system you can hear singing when all is well, and hear go silent when it isn't.
CNRY is the modern canary.
A workplace has its own invisible gases: a manager who quietly burns people out, a culture that looks fine from the surface and turns toxic once you're inside. You usually can't sense it from the job listing or the interview — not until you're already down in the tunnel, and by then it's often too late to leave easily.
CNRY exists to be the bird that goes in first. Every honest review is a canary in the cage — an early warning from someone who was already down there — so the next person can read the air before they descend, and walk away from the shafts that were never safe to enter.
Methodology & Ethics
This page documents how reviews are collected, verified, and kept anonymous, and how aggregate data may be used for research and reporting. It is written to be legible to journalists, researchers, and anyone deciding whether to trust what they read here. The aim is simple: give the individual a truthful early warning, and never let money or power buy influence over the record.
What a review is
Every CNRY review is a first-hand account from someone who actually reported to a manager, or worked at a company, being reviewed. Reviews are structured: a written account, a set of category ratings on a 1–5 scale, a recommend / do-not-recommend signal, and optional trait tags. We record the reviewer's position (job title) and, optionally, a name and email used only for verification.
Verification
Providing a name and email is optional; when given, they are used solely to confirm a review comes from a real person and to deter abuse. They are never published and never shared with the manager, company, or employer being reviewed. Submissions enter a moderation queue and are published only after review against our content guidelines — entries that name third parties, make unsupported factual claims, or do not reflect genuine experience are not published.
How we protect anonymity
Public reviews display only the reviewer's position — never a full name, email, or contact information. In our aggregate statistics we apply a minimum cell size: any group backed by fewer than five reviews is suppressed and never shown. That means no small team, tiny employer, or narrow segment can be used to work backwards to an individual. Anonymity is enforced by the way the data is published, not by policy alone.
Guarding against manipulation
There are no manager or employer logins. No one can pay to raise a score, bury a review, or remove a record — there is no mechanism to do so, by design. We screen for duplicate and coordinated submissions, and reviews that violate our guidelines are withheld. The people being reviewed are not our customers, and never will be.
Who is responsible for reviews
Reviews are written by the individual reviewers who submit them, and reflect those people's own first-hand experiences and opinions — not the views of CNRY. CNRY ("we") is a neutral platform that hosts this reviewer-created content; consistent with Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act (47 U.S.C. § 230), we are not the author, publisher, or speaker of what reviewers post, and screening or removing content in good faith does not change that. Each reviewer ("you") is responsible for making sure their own review is truthful, first-hand, and lawful. The full terms governing this are set out in our Terms of Use.
Using data for research and the public interest
We share workplace data only in aggregated, anonymized form, and only for research, journalism, and public-interest use. Recipients are prohibited from attempting to re-identify any individual. We do not, and will not, sell the ability to influence what reviews say or who can see them. Researchers and reporters may request aggregate figures; the always-current aggregates are published openly on our insights page.
Limitations — read the data honestly
CNRY reviews are self-selected: people choose to contribute, so the sample is not a statistically representative survey of any workplace, and ratings reflect subjective experience. Small segments are hidden by the suppression rule above, so an absence of data is not evidence of anything. We state these limits plainly because trustworthy data means being clear about what it can and cannot support.
Individuals over institutions.
The core of CNRY will always be free to the people who use it to protect themselves. Only your position is ever shown publicly. No one can pay to alter, boost, or remove a review. And any data we share is aggregated, anonymized, and offered for research and the public interest — never to give a company power over a person.
